Something Snarrly
Challenge/Needs
The phrase ‘doing it for the plot’ stuck in my head as I listened to a coworker describe her questionable dating life decisions. I started asking myself what I was currently doing for my plot and what story I’d been leaving behind in the different phases of my life. I decided that I would explore my own personal history and divide up the most notable stories into episodes. I’d group the episodes into seasons. All of the sudden I had an episodic view of much of my life in the form of a series you’d be likely to stream online. This list making and organization would be fun to share with my family if I could package it the right way.
Creative Approach
The TV series style organization to my personal history naturally flowed right into a visual layout like you’d see on Netflix or Amazon Prime. I took design cues from these streaming services and paired them with the content I’d created. Out of the gate, I’d made 6 different seasons. Within each season I had around 10 episodes touching on some of my favorite personal stories. Pairing imagery with each of these memories made them much more vivid and intriguing. However, the short paragraph and tiny thumbnail weren’t enough. I was just getting started. I decided that I would create a documentary-style video for each of the stories on the list. I then created a clickable version of the list so that one could click right to the story they’d like to see.
